Pere Caminal Magrans
I am a former researcher at the B2SLab. This lab belongs to the Institut de Recerca i Innovació en Salut, at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
I developed a large expertise in the modeling of risk prediction in the clinical environment. Samir Kanaan
I was with the Department of Computer Science at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). I am a former researcher at the B2SLab (Bioinformatics and Biomedical Signals Laboratory).

Angela Lopez del Rio
Angela is a biomedical engineer (BSc from the Technical University of Madrid and MSc from the University of Barcelona/Polytechnic University of Catalonia). She did her PhD at the B2SLab between 2017-2021, focusing on ways to ensure the quality and reliability of deep learning models used to predict how proteins and compounds interact in the early stages of drug discovery. During her PhD, she collaborated with the start-up Mind the Byte and did a research stay at Uniprot, in the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL) in Cambridge, UK. Since 2020, she’s been working as a Data Scientist at the pharma company Boehringer Ingelheim, first in R&D in Biberach (Germany) and now back in Barcelona, in the Business Operations department.

Flavio Palmieri
Dr. Palmieri’s research focuses on cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, particularly obesity and type 2 diabetes, aiming to develop non-invasive diagnostic tools. During his PhD in biomedical engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, he explored non invasive cardiovascular risk stratification marker via electrocardiogram analysis. His current work at Sant Joan de Déu children’s Hospital Barcelona and the University of Barcelona in epigenetic field examines obesity’s pathophysiology, intergenerational transmission, and metabolic risk factors using data science. His ongoing research seeks to model obesity’s genetic and epigenetic transmission to improve prevention and treatment strategies.

I’m Giovana Gavidia, a computer science engineer, I achieved my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Polytechnic University of Catalonia and working as a biomedical researcher at B2SLab.

Sergi Picart Armada
Welcome to my small site! My name is Sergi Picart and my background is Industrial Engineering and a Degree in Mathematics. I deeply thank CFIS (UPC, Barcelona, Spain) for offering me this excellent opportunity. I used to be a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering, advised by Alexandre Perera in the B2SLab. The defense took place virtually in Covid19 times and can be found here. You will find further information about the publications and the software in the sections below. I enjoy playing with math, statistical learning and programming. Likewise, computational biology is an amusing and rewarding field to explore. My main research topic included interpretable diffusion algorithms on biological networks, combined with functional analysis on metabolomics, transcriptomics and proteomics studies.
